This RCA 77D came in with an extreme sag to the ribbon, resulting in a very thin sounding microphone, with very little low frequency content.

 

Diagnosis:  Nothing that a good cleaning and a new ribbon can’t fix.

Here is a view of the ribbon motor.  For the size of the microphone, it has a very small geometry ribbon, the gap measures .6″ x 1″
